Autumn leaves of sugar

When September hits, it forces many to take out their scarves, light sweaters, and boots as the weather begins to add a chill to the air. Yet despite the cooler temperature, fall brings a sense of warmth and intimacy.
Restaurant menus begin to shift to hearty stews and the smell of apple cider and warm apple pie become an added luxury. However, if you're in the predicament I'm in, aka fall doesn't hit 'til December and winter never makes an arrival, you find yourself improvising to make fall come early.

For me, that means the oven is used a little more often and baked goods are made for eating and sharing. One way to do this is by making cookies in the shape of maple leaves or any leaves. I got my cookie cutter on sale sometime last year from Target's dollar section I think. The size creates cookies that fit perfectly in little jars to give as a gift to your neighbors, friends, or loved ones.

I chose to make shortbread for a change. I've never thought to make these, but I found a Scottish Shortbread recipe in my cookie cookbook and decided to give it a try. They are the perfect tea or coffee cookie, but I also think they are good for breakfast. ;)

What cookie recipes do you like to make to welcome fall?

  2. I think im going to start making my own delicious snacks instead of buying Whole Foods desserts. I will try this recipe and french toast donuts. The only cookie recipe I like to make is chocolate chip cookies, but you inspire me to try new recipes. Thank you.

    1. I usually don't stray from chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, but I thought I'd try something that would let me use cookie cutters. :) I liked these shortbread cookies, because they only required 4 ingredients I believe.
