2 Fall DIY Projects for Just $12

I have to admit that owning decorations for every holiday is not something I'm fond of. I mainly blame it on my problem(?) of always needing to get rid of things. I also find a lot of holiday decor to be somewhat tacky. Therefore, I only ever decorate during Christmas. I love Christmas! But even the decorations I have for Christmas only take
up half a trunk and are mainly tree ornaments, lights, and stockings.

Since I usually don't start decorating until after Thanksgiving, I've decided to change that up this year and begin decorating for the fall now. But I don't want to buy new things, so I've come up with 2 ways you can bring the spirit of fall into your home by using natural objects, such as eucalyptus and flowers. These 2 diys are inspired by images from pinterest, blogs, and instagram. The nice thing about using these items is that they are fresh and affordable. For a bundle of eucalyptus and a bundle of flowers, I spent $12. Both of these projects cost a total of $12, which is so crazy to me!

Project 1: Simple floral arrangement.

1. A bundle of eucalyptus. It's best to get a bundle that has a variety of eucalyptus. (I used a few of the eucalyptus bundle for this project and saved the rest for the next project.)
2. A bundle of yellow wildflowers. I used 3 of the 5 stems.
3. A vase. (This vase is from H&M. Similar here.)

I'm not an expert at floral arrangements, but I've been told to work with odds.

  • I began with 4 branches of eucalyptus.
  • I then added 3 stems of yellow flowers.
  • I went back in to add a 5th branch of eucalyptus.
  • Lastly, I added three stems of the tall eucalyptus (the one with lots of leaves going up and down.)
*I'm sorry I don't know the specific names of these.

Project 2: Eucalyptus hanging

I chose to hang this piece above our dining table. Although this piece reminds me of Christmas, I still think it can count for fall. :)

1. The remaining eucalyptus branches.
2. Strips of twine.
3. Four small nails.
4. A pair of scissors.

  • First place the branches out on your table to determine the length you want for the top and sides. You may end up breaking apart some of the branches.

  • Once you've laid out the branches, use twine to connect the branches together. You can also use green gardening wire (I don't know the actual name of it). Connect the branches into 3 parts, the top and the 2 sides.
  • For the 2 side sections, I created a little loop at the top, using the twine. This is so I can hang it on a nail.
  • The last step is to hang the three separate pieces.
  • I used 2 small nails to hang the top piece and 1 nail for each side piece.

Happy fall!
